Welcome to A Natural Seattle for Dogs (& Cats!). This site is not about the WHYs of natural pet care. As a passionately devoted mom to my boy I am more interested in the HOWs and WHATs. I made this site when I lived in Seattle, to reference the difference places I could go to buy things, etc. I now live in Boston, so this page is no longer updated, but apparently people still stop by here. For the uninitiated, there are a couple of good sites in my mini links section you can visit to learn more about the WHYs of raw diets and natural pet care in general. This page was written primarily as a reference for myself, as a place where I could store my information and links in an easily accessible format. I hope you find it useful and if not, there are kazillions of other pages out there to cater to your needs! Visit The DogPile for your surfing pleasure. |

This is a list I compiled from a few different sources. I've noted which books I've managed to find at the Seattle Public Library and have included some info on the books I've read. |
|
|
Not sure what the differences are between Billinghurst, Pitcairn, Volhard, Schultze, McKay, Levy; and which one to use? Check out some information on several of the "main" raw diets being used. |
|
|
Many of the above books are available from the Seattle Public Library, and if you have a Quest card you can place a hold on a book through the library catalog. The book will be delivered to the library branch of your choice for pickup. The catalog can be accessed through telnet, direct dial-up or at any library branch. |

|
There are lots of email lists on the net you can subscribe to for getting more information on different topics, ask questions and learn more! And some miscellaneous reading material you might be interested in. |

Worried about the all important Calcium:Phosphorous ratio? Check out this really handy site for calculating the ratio in your pet's dinner. According to Dr Pitcairn the ratio should be between 1:1 & 2:1 for dogs and 1.1:1 & 1.3:1 for cats. |

Provides information from the USDA Nutrient Database in an easy to use format. You can combine several food items in different amounts and it will whip out a table for you. I use it to compare nutrient levels in different types of food (like meat) and to get a rough estimate of the protein/fat/carb levels in Tobi's food. |

Don & Joe's Meats Pike Place Market |
100% natural Washington chicken meat, organs and parts. They sell large 4-5 lb bags of "necks and backs" but I have found that each bag usually has either necks or backs, not both. The necks and backs come with skin and fat attached. Sometimes you get whole carcasses in the bags... I've even gotten some "bonus" wings! Also lamb (incl. tongue, liver, kidney), beef (incl. liver, heart, sweetbread), and other meats like quail and duck. |

Crystal Meats, Inc 94 Pike Street, Pike

100% natural chicken. On 02/18/99 chicken backs were $0.79/lb. They come in approx. 3 lb packs, not frozen and are neatly trimmed (not much fa and extra skin attached). They have lots of other kinds of meat too but I just buy chicken. |

Asian folks eat just about every part of every animal so you will find things here that might look pretty disgusting to you but will be great for feeding raw to your dog or cat! They have Draper Valley Farms 100% natural chicken. On 02/08/99 chicken backs in 2.5 lb packages and chicken bones (looked like carcasses) in 1.5 lb packages both cost $0.69/lb. Store packaged chicken feet in 1 lb packages cost $1.29/lb. They also have pig uteri for sale if you dare use that! 06/06/99: Did a spot of shopping and saw lots of possible doggy food items on the shelves. Pig organs & bits (kidney @ $1.09/lb, liver, brains, heart, tails, feet, blood), cow organs & bits (liver, brains, tendons, blood, bile), salmon tips @ $1.49-2.99/lb (meaty skin bits leftover when they fillet the fish), duck livers. Also saw whole aloe vera leaves for sale. |
